Many people have a fear of choosing and purchasing their prescription glasses online. If you’re anything like me, when you go to physical stores, you try on 100’s of pairs before finding one you like. But there are tricks that I, and many others, have used successfully to choose great glasses online.
There are three main points of consider:
- The glasses should enhance your best facial features, such as eye shape or facial structure, like cheekbones.
- The frame shape should contrast with your face shape.
- The frame size should be in scale with your face size, although there can be exceptions to this one with some trends towards larger frames.
Your face shape does have a big role in determining the best frames for your face, check out the chart below to find your face shape and corresponding ideal glasses shape.
The next step is determining the colors that will suit you best. To do this easily, determine your skins undertones, either warm or cool. See this article for a more detailed description on how to do that.
Then consider your eye and hair color, these can help determine the best colors for you, they are also generally classified as warm and cool: Strawberry blond, platinum, blue-black, white, auburn, salt-and-pepper and ash brown are cool. Warm hair colours include golden blond, brownish black, brown-gold, "carrot" and "dirty" gray.
Examples of frame colors ideal for warm tones are: camel, khaki, gold, copper, peach, orange, coral, off-white, fire-engine red, warm blue and blond tortoise.
For cool coloring, the best eyeglass frame colors are black, silver, rose-brown, blue-gray, plum, magenta, pink, jade, blue and demi-amber (darker) tortoise.
The next thing to consider is whether you want a fashionable frame for your prescription glasses or a more classic feel to ensure your look is timeless. Browse each section to see what appeals to you the best!
